August 20 • Joaquin Miller Park

Moderate hike exploring Oakland’s Joaquin Miller Park, where the “Poet of the Sierras” planted today's redwood groves and built fanciful monuments from 1886 to 1913. Enjoy great views as well as the shady headwaters of Sausal Creek. From Rt. 13, take Joaquin Miller Rd. uphill 1 mi. to Sanford; go left (north) to the Ranger Station. Bring water and snack. Free.

August 3 • Historic Walk, Richmond Waterfront

Tour the fascinating exhibits that are part of the Rosie the Riveter WWII National Historic Park along Richmond's waterfront, starting at Shimada Park. Level, 3-mile walk, which also features great views and birdwatching.  Wear layered clothing; bring binocs if you want to watch birds. To get there, exit I-580 on Marina Bay Parkway and drive toward the Bay. After nearly one mile, enter parking lot of Shimada Park on the left. Richmond Bay Trail map at www.ci.richmond.ca.us/trac/

Explore Lower Cerrito Creek and Albany Hill

Meet at: The north end of Cornell Str., south edge of El Cerrito Plaza (near Trader Joe’s).
Details: The new trail along Cerrito Creek should be complete. We will take an easy walk to explore history and restoration of Cerrito Creek and Albany Hill.
 

East Bay Regional Parks Botanic Garden, Tilden Park

Details: A stroller-friendly and wheelchair-accessible walk.

Details: This is an excellent opportunity to view first-hand our recently improved paths, including Columbia Path, Glendale Path, and Wilson Walk. Moderate pace, some steep stairways, some fairly strenuous hillside scrambling .

A Walk in the Cerrito Creek/Albany Hill Areas (photos)

Meet at: The El Cerrito BART Station
Details: A 5-mile walk that includes a creek fording, possible visit to new walkway along Cerrito Creek, and a steep climb up Albany Hill. Wear shoes with good traction and bring BART ticket/money for the trip back from the North Berkeley BART station. Plan on 4 hours, estimated return @ 2 pm.

The Rock Parks of North Berkeley

Meet at: Marin Circle by the Millenium Oak (lower part of Los Angeles Avenue).
Details: Walk will be easy, with optional more difficult climbs to the top of the rocks.

Details: Susan Schwartz, president of Friends of Five Creeks, will speak and show slides on recent and upcoming restorations that one can enjoy on walks. All are welcome to attend this meeting of Berkeley Path Wanderers Association.
 
Redwood Park Nature/Mushrooms (A Walk)

Meet at: Redwood Rd. entrance to Redwood Regional Park, drive all the way in to main parking lot.
Details: Enjoy showy and wonderful mushrooms, ideal for photographers. We’ll also look at birds and ponder the lives and histories of the Redwoods. Leader will be able to give more info. up until 8:30 am the day of the walk. Easy pace.

A Walk at Point Molate

Meet at: Pt. Molate - Take 580 West to the last exit before the Richmond Bridge (Pt. Molate exit). Soon the road divides into three; take the middle road, go @ 2.5 mi. and park alongside road by Brothers Lighthouse sign.
Details: Formerly grazing land for livestock from Mission Delores, the site of a 19th century Chinese community, Winehaven Winery (on the National Register of Historic Places), Naval Fuel Depot, and now possibly a casino. Could be cool/windy. Easy walk. Lunch may be purchased at a diner at San Pablo Yacht Harbor if desired. Please see Mary Lynch's photos of this walk at:
