Leader: Bob Johnson
Starting location: At the driveway of 580 Grizzly Peak Blvd, 3 houses south of where Euclid ends at Grizzly Peak. A restroom will be available there before and after the walk
Distance and duration: 3.1 miles and 2.5 hours if we don’t take any shortcuts
Berkeley Woods straddles the ridge at the top of the north Berkeley hills so we will have occasional views both east and west. Our walk goes up and down with an elevation gain of about 600 feet but no really long steep stretches. There is some attractive architecture, varied street trees, and some nice gardens as well as some fascinating bits of history we will touch on. There are also two very little known paths we will take, and we might encounter some mud there if it has rained. But most walking will be on paved streets with no sidewalks (but not much traffic). If the weather is nice and you want to brown bag it, we could eat a bit of lunch afterwards on our deck.
Parking is generally available somewhere along Grizzly Peak. Currently the 65 bus which stops nearby does not run on weekends, but I keep hoping they will restore more regular service some day.
Heavy rain cancels. Vaccinated and boosted walkers only please. Dogs on leash are OK to join.
