Come explore San Francisco’s paths and stairway art! The 16th Avenue Tiled Steps are a little-known gem in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Heights neighborhood. The 163 spectacular tiled steps were developed by a local nonprofit, with support of the city, local businesses, and hundreds of community residents. Joining us will be one of the lead artists, Aileen Barr, who will inspire us to make stairway art a reality on the Berkeley paths.
We will take the 8:35 a.m. BART train from Downtown Berkeley to Glen Park (please do not be late!) and hike through Glen Canyon Park, then take city streets to the tiled steps and ascend to Grandview Park. We’ll eat lunch with 360-degree views of San Francisco, then hike back to BART.
If you would prefer to go directly to the stairs, meet the group at 10:45 a.m. at 16th Avenue and Moraga Street in San Francisco. The tour of the steps and the Grandview Park will take about 1 hour.
Bring water and lunch. Kids and dogs are welcome, as long as they can keep up with the group.
