Leader: Leslie Reed
Distance and duration: This event will include a brief (15 minute) walk south on Euclid from the Rose Garden to Rose Walk, up the steps there and onto Tamalpais Rd. until we reach the Tamalpais Steps. There we will descend and begin the poetry reading at the top poem, part way down the steps.
Accessibility: The reading will take place on the steps along the fence. This walk has stair climbing, some areas of steeply pitched road and the top of the Tamalpais Steps are very steep with a handrail.
Along the staircase Leslie Reed has written over 60 original poems onto what she calls the Tamalpais Running Fence. Leslie will give a background on how she hears and transcribes poetry when immersed in nature. Her poetry collection began while living on the windswept shores along the white cliffs in southern England, where she wrote earlier poems on sea walls with beach chalk. Leslie Reed will talk about now hearing poetry in the quiet by the trees at Cordonices Park. She will read a set of poems and discuss them, as the group desires.
To preserve the poems written in nature, Leslie has photographed each one. She has create a beautiful book of photos with transcriptions of each poem, available for order at the reading.
