Leader: Robert Johnson
Distance: 5 miles
Elevation gain: Around 500 feet. Shortcuts are possible as we try to keep the walk to within 3 hours.
Accessibility: The stairs do not make this a fully accessible outing, but our moderate pace makes this walk accessible to most. Well-behaved dogs on leash are allowed. Small children may not find this to be an amenable walk due to the distance and all the stops.
The walk will include 3-4 paths but the focus will be on architecture, bits of history, street trees and gardens and the creek that runs through it. Thus we will be walking at a moderate pace and stopping to point out the various features. There is a lot of notable architecture in this upscale residential area, partly laid out by the renowned Olmstead firm of landscape architects. We will be mainly on public sidewalks.
The possible restroom stop will be at the shops opposite the Claremont Hotel where someone might need to buy something to get the restroom access.
The starting point is accessible by BART and AC Transit. There should be minimal parking restrictions on a Sunday, but check signs.
