The All-the-Parks-in-Berkeley Series Returns!

  • 3039 Halcyon Court Berkeley, CA, 94705 United States (map)

Leader:  Lynn Deregowski
Distance: 2.5 miles
Accessibility: Flat with residential sidewalks; dogs and children welcome!

Can you believe there are over 50 parks in Berkeley? Back in 2015, we set out on a mission to visit every one, uncovering hidden green spaces, local gems, and beloved community hubs along the way. It took three years to complete, but it was well worth the time and steps! Now, a decade later, we're bringing back this popular series, inviting you to rediscover Berkeley’s incredible variety of parks—big and small, bustling and serene, well-known and nearly secret. Whether you're a longtime local or new to exploring, this is a great way to experience the city's green spaces.

Our journey begins at Halcyon Commons, a true grassroots success story that transformed a parking lot into a charming neighborhood space with open green space, shady trees, a cozy picnic spot, and a popular tire swing. From there, we’ll meander to five more parks in south-central Berkeley, each with its own unique charm or history. Expect a flat, easy route with sidewalks, perfect for strolling with friends, family, or a four-legged companion—the walk is dog- and family-friendly, as parks are meant to be enjoyed by all!
