Leader: Bob Johnson
Where: Meet at the paved parking area in Las Trampas Regional Wilderness at the end of Bollinger Canyon Road.
Duration and Distance: 5–6 miles with stops to look at wildflowers and other native plants and a lunch stop at Las Trampas Peak. About 1500 feet total elevation gain and 5.5 hours
Thanks to four distinct natural habitats, Las Trampas offers a wonderful range of wildflowers and other native plants as well as fine views from the ridges in this unspoiled and relatively uncrowded East Bay park. Even if the parking lot seems full, hikers are strewn out over miles of diverse trails. Hiking will be on dirt trails, both single-track and fire-road width.
Bring good hiking shoes and lunch, and dress in layers if the weather seems changeable. There is a restroom at the trailhead but drinking water is not available in the park. Well-behaved dogs on leash are allowed.
Driving Directions: From I-680 take the Crow Canyon Road exit at San Ramon and head west on Crow Canyon Road (go right after coming off the freeway). After about a mile, go right at the signal on Bollinger Canyon Road and continue for about four miles until it ends at the paved parking area in Las Trampas Regional Wilderness. If the parking lot is full you can usually find space along the wide road shoulder or an overflow parking lot farther back.
