Leader: Janet Byron
Distance: 4 miles; mostly city sidewalks with a half-dozen long stairway paths.
Accessibility: Moderate difficulty; hills and lots of steps. Heavy rain cancels. Children, accompanied by parents, who can handle this level of walk are welcome. Well-behaved dogs on leash OK.
Street parking is available (watch for signs); 2-mile walk from 19th Street BART station with an AC Transit stop (NL, 29 buses) at the start/end.
Unmarked but not unloved, the hidden paths of Trestle Glen and Crocker Highlands in the hills above Lake Merritt are no longer unknown! This moderately challenging 4-mile walk traverses an historic neighborhood with beautifully landscaped homes, goes up and down a half-dozen or so steep public paths, and wanders on a trail through a community park. We will also stop to see a few homes designed by Julia Morgan.
