Leader : Alan Dixon
Distance: 5 miles
Elevation: 1200 ft.
Accessibility: There 3 restrooms available: Live Oak Park at the start, La Loma Glendale Park at 1.5 miles, and the Berkeley Rose Garden at 3.8 miles. There is occasional water but no food on the walk, so bring snack food. Fit hikers should be fine — trekking poles will make the hike easier as there are many stairs and over 1K feet of elevation gain. Children who are fit walkers are welcome. Dogs would be a liability on the hike. Excessive heat or smoke will cancel the walk.
The walk follows Codornices Creek to its southern headwaters high in the hills before eventually reaching the crest of the Berkeley hills and passing briefly through Tilden Park. It then descends back down to gain the northern headwaters of Codornices Creek. The route will finish up going through Codornices Park and the Berkeley Rose Garden.
There will be a bit of everything on this hike (albeit some of it not in great detail): parks, streams, waterfalls, gardens, architecture, art, quirky kitsch, history, bay views, old trolley stops and of course roses!
